How to Make Lion Masks for Kids
Lion masks can be a fun craft project for kids who love animals or who are learning about lions in school. This simple lion mask can even make a cute Halloween costume when paired with orange or yellow pajamas or sweatshirt and sweat pants. Kids who are old enough to use scissors and glue can make the mask themselves, while younger children can help decorate a lion mask that adult helpers cut out and assemble for them.
Things You'll Need

1
Place the paper plate on a piece of orange or yellow construction paper. Trace around the paper plate to make a circle. Cut out the circle to make the lion mask face.
-
2
Draw and cut out two small circles of orange or yellow construction paper for ears. Glue the ears to the top of the lion mask.
-
-
3
Draw eye holes on the lion mask face using a pencil. Hold up the mask to the child's face to make sure the eye holes are positioned in the right place, and adjust them as needed.
-
4
Punch a hole in the middle of the eye holes using a pencil or scissors tip, then cut out the eye holes. Be careful with this part, especially if children are helping make the lion mask craft.
-
5
Draw a nose, mouth and whiskers on the lion face using markers or crayons. Let kids who are old enough decorate their own masks.
-
6
Cut strips of brown construction paper, each about 1/2 inch wide and 2 to 3 inches long to make the mane for a male lion. (For a female lion, you can omit the mane.) Glue the ends of the strips to the edges of the lion's head.
-
7
Use a hole punch to make a small hole in the side of the mask, about even with the eyes.
-
8
Cut a piece of elastic cord or yarn long enough to wrap around the child's head. Tie the ends of the elastic or yarn to the holes in the sides of the mask.
-
9
Try the lion mask on the child and adjust the length of the cord as needed to make sure the mask fits securely, but not too tightly.

Tips & Warnings
For a more durable mask, you can use the same technique to make a lion mask out of craft foam instead of paper. You can also make the mane by substituting short pieces of brown yarn for the strips of paper if you prefer.
Supervise children carefully when working with scissors.
