Launch a spreadsheet program such as MS Excel. Create columns for monthly goals for the next year and yearly goals for the next 10 to 20 years, depending on far ahead you want to plan.

Determine what you want your personal goal statement to include. Choose topics such as goals related to education, finances, family, career or any other topics that are important to your personal life.

Decide your goals for each area. For example, if you want to complete a degree or further your education, add that goal to the appropriate cell in the row for education.

Do some research, if necessary, to learn how to achieve the goals you have listed. For the education example, research the local community colleges or universities to determine how long it would take to earn the degree you are seeking. Include that information in a "Notes" column at the far right side of your worksheet.
