Make-up Art Cosmetics, or MAC Cosmetics, is a premier manufacturer of cosmetics based in the United States. Its PRO membership program for makeup professionals offers them numerous benefits ranging from discounts on its products to social events and classes on the professional usage of cosmetics. If you are interested in becoming a MAC PRO makeup artist, enroll in either its student program if you are still in school or in its normal program if you are already working as a makeup artist. Makeup artists are distinguished in that they receive a 40 percent rather than 30 percent discount on MAC products than other makeup professionals.
Meeting the Qualifications
You must be a makeup professional to enroll in MAC's PRO program. Qualified positions include makeup artists, costume designers, performers and photographers. For a complete list, consult the MAC Cosmetics website. You can enter one of these professions by either attending an appropriate school or begin working at a related job. For example, you can pick up makeup experience working as a cosmetics salesperson and supplement that experience with on-the-job training on applying makeup.
MAC PRO Student Requirements
The MAC PRO student program is open to students enrolled in eligible schools teaching either aesthetics, cosmetology, fashion styling, hairstyling, makeup artistry, or performing arts. You can check the status of your school by consulting the list of eligible schools on MAC's website. Membership in the student program costs $10 USD or CAD and lasts six months. You must provide evidence that you are enrolled in an eligible school and taking the makeup course that you are claiming on the application. A course schedule is ideal, although a receipt is also acceptable.
MAC PRO Requirements
The MAC PRO program is open to makeup professionals in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Spain. Membership costs $35 USD or $45 CAD for an one year membership and $65 USD or $85 CAD for a two year membership. You must provide at least two pieces of evidence demonstrating that you belong to the profession that you are claiming. Examples of such evidence include business cards, union cards, professional licenses, certifications, and diplomas. If you are reapplying for membership after your old membership has expired, you are also required to send in your old PRO ID.
Make sure that you qualify for the MAC PRO program that you are applying for. Download a copy of the appropriate application form from the MAC website and follow the instructions to complete it properly. Check that the evidence you are including is acceptable and be prepared to make the payment using either check, money order, or credit card. You are required to mail in your application to the address listed on the form if you live in North America, but application details can differ if you live elsewhere. Be sure to follow the instructions listed on the application form for your country.
