Hair color can transform dull hair into a shiny, fabulous color. There are two ways to apply hair color to your head -- through a stylist or at-home color. Either way, the end result can be disastrous if there is a chemical reaction with your natural hair color. There are times when a color is not mixed properly by a stylist, or your hair is a far stretch from the color on the box at the drug store. Regardless of how the color was applied to your hair, it can be fixed. Does this Spark an idea?

Contact the stylist if your bad hair color was the result of a professional application. Hair color will set into the cuticle within 48 to 72 hours; therefore, call immediately and request help. The stylist who colored your hair may know how to fix the problem, but she may charge a fee.

Lighten an at-home application that turned too dark by adding a few drops of dish detergent into your hair wash. The dish detergent will help to fade the color up to one shade. Another solution for fading is a hot oil treatment to the hair. Hot oil treatments are available at drug stores.

Fade any color of hair by washing the hair in hot water and using a volumizing shampoo. Hot water and volumizing shampoos will blow the cuticle open and fade the hair color.

4
Tone down brassy hair with a blue or purple shampoo. Dark hair that is dyed blond may have a golden-orange appearance from the shade difference. Wash the brassiness out with a blue or purple tone shampoo. The shampoo will counteract with the brassiness and leave you with a natural hair color. Wash the hair daily with the shampoo until the brassiness disappears.

5
Soak green hair in tomato juice to neutralize the color. Blond hair has a tendency to turn a greenish color when it comes in contact with chlorine. Purchase tomato juice from a grocery store and soak hair for up to 20 minutes.

6
Strip color from your hair with a toner. Toner is available at beauty supply stores, and goes on like a hair color, but removes the semi to permanent color to reveal your natural color. Other options to strip color include applying hot extra virgin olive oil to the head, and massaging through the hair. Rinse thoroughly.

7
Add highlights to your hair when all else fails. Highlights can intertwine hair to create a fabulous new look that colors up any imperfections.
