Things You'll Need:
- A computer
- An internet connection

Step 1
Open an internet browser to search for free anti-virus software. You can simply type this into a search engine or check out my remaining steps for popular free anti-virus software choices.
-
Step 2
Go to free.avg.com and download AVG anti-virus. This is an excellent free anti-virus program that runs nicely in the background. Sometimes, I forget that it's even on my computer! It may take up a bit more space than the other anti virus softwares, but it's worth it. This program is great because it provides anti-virus, anti-spyware, an email scanner, and a file scanner. It's very comprehensive and totally free!
-
Step 3
Go to the Avast website and download their free anti virus software. Here's another great freebie that offers protection while not using a lot of system resources. It also includes an anti-rootkit and anti-spyware component.
-
Step 4
Visit the Avira website and download their free anti-virus software. Here is another free anti virus that has a small footprint but large protection.
-
Step 5
Download Adaware personal edition by Lavasoft. This is a great free anti-spyware program that will help keep your PC protected at all times. Spybot is another great program for this function. They are not anti-virus programs per se, but they keep your computer protected from harmful malware and trojans.
