Figure out what is causing the heel pain. Are your shoes too tight or too high? Do you wear the same shoes all the time? Did you fall on something or bump your heel against something? Do you put your feet flat on the floor when you're standing in place? Answering these questions are crucial to figuring out why the heel pain exists. Once you figure out the cause, avoid that activity in the future.

Tips & Warnings
After the swelling is removed from the heel, alternate ice and heat on the area.
If you still have heel pain after following the steps above, you need to visit your doctor again or seek a second opinion from another doctor.
Talk to your doctor about getting foot orthotics. Along with the steps listed above, a foot orthotic can take the pressure off the injured area and promote faster healing.
