Step 1
Select gifts that suit you as a couple. If you're both outdoor enthusiasts, why not register for new camping gear? Or if you enjoy having people over, register for serving platters, wine glasses, and board games.
-
Step 2
Pick national, well-known stores - especially if you have a lot of guests coming in from out of town. If your heart is set on registering at a local boutique, doing so is fine as long you register at a national chain store.
-
Step 3
Create your registry together. The term "bridal registry" is a bit of a misnomer since registering should be for both the bride and groom. Pick out items for your home together, compromise when needed, and most importantly have fun together!
-
Step 4
The more guests you have invited, the more gifts you should register for. The general rule of thumb is you should register for two to three times as many gifts as there are guests; you want to make sure there is a wide variety of items for guests to choose from.
-
Step 5
Register for items at different price points, both low and high to avoid making tacky assumptions about how much your guests should and can spend.
-
Step 6
Register for sets separately. For example, if you've selected coordinating linens (i.e. bath towels, shower curtain, etc.), make sure you register for each piece individually. This will allow guests to get as many items as they want within their budget.
-
Step 7
If you are more of a traditionalist, it's perfectly acceptable to register for both fine china and everyday dinnerware.
