Ever needed (or wanted) whipped cream only to discover the can is empty or expired? If you have heavy whipping cream and some sweetner you can make your own! It is super easy to do and so much fresher than anything you could buy at the store. Plus, you can fancy it up by adding optional flavors like cinnamon, chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla or maple. Remember that you are going to be whipping a lot air into the cream, so it will make about twice as much whipped cream as the cream that you start with.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • heavy whipping cream
  • sweetener of choice (sugar, Splenda, honey, maple syrup)
  • electric mixer
  • deep, narrow bowl or large measuring cup
  1. Step 1

Measure and pour cold whipping cream into a deep, narrow bowl or large measuring cup.

  2. Step 2

Whip with your electric mixer on med-high speed until the cream begins to stiffen.

  3. Step 3

Add sweetener of your choice and any additional flavorings to taste at this point and continue to whip. Don't overdo it with the add-ins or it will be too watery to whip up.

  4. Step 4

Stop and check the thickness. It should form soft peaks that hold their shape when done (or basically what you think whipped cream should look like). If too soft yet, mix for a couple more minutes and then recheck. If you over-whip you will end up with butter, and you can't go back once that happens. You'll know that has happened if the whipped cream suddenly breaks down and becomes watery.
