- Patience

Step 1
Dig out your current car insurance policy. You will want to set this as a base so that you are comparing the same coverages on your car with each company you research.
-
Step 2
Using your online search box type in Car Insurance Quotes and see what companies come up.
Most of us simply choose the top 3 or 4 companies. Many will give you an online quote. Make sure if you get an online quote that you are comparing the same coverages as your current policy. -
Step 3
Using your phone book, call at least 3 local companies. Tell them you are looking for car insurance quotes. They will ask you if you have current coverage and if so how much so have this information readily available as well as your vehicles make and model.
-
Step 4
Compare step 2 and step 3 against your current policy. Again, make sure to compare the same coverages (unless of course you want more coverage).
-
Step 5
Check for all available discounts.
Does the company give multi policy discounts such as homeowners and car insurance?
Does the company give a multi car discount?
Check for senior discounts if you are a senior citizen (ages will vary by company so be sure to ask if you are 55 or older).
Don't forget safe driver discounts, accident free, no tickets and so on. -
Step 6
Some companies will compare different companies when they give you a quote. Always make sure to ask when getting a quote if the company you are talking to offers this service.
