restart a frozen iPod Video, Nano, or Classic

Every now and then, your ipod gets stuck or frozen and you don't know what to do. Yikes! Thus How To will show you how to restart your ipod just like restarting a computer. This works on frozen ipods or ipods in general as long as it has a scroll wheel, eg. not the touch ipods.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A frozen iPod (or just an ipod)
  • Ipod cannot be the touchscreen ipods
  1. Step 1

Make sure that your iPod's lock is not on. This is the tab on the top of the iPod. If it is red, then switch the tab so that it is no longer red, the off position.

  2. Step 2

Hold down the 'Menu' button on the click wheel. This is located on the front of the iPod and is the Top of the wheel.

  3. Step 3

At the same time, simultaniously hold down the 'Center' button as you hold the 'Menu' button. This is the smaller inner circle, face of the ipod. It is surrounded by the click wheel.

  4. Step 4

Hold the two buttons simultaniously for about 10-15 seconds. The iPod should automatically restart. When you see the Apple Logo reappear, let it load and now you have a working iPod!

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your iPod and the music / videos / pics / etc that it brings to your life!

Tips & Warnings
  • This is very simple. You cannot go wrong!
  • If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps.
  • If the battery is dead, then you may need to charge before restarting.
  • If you have run through the restart a few times and the iPod still does not restart, then you may have a greater problem. See a professional.
  • This does not work on any Touch featured iPods.

on 3/18/2009 I am extremely grateful for this article! I bought a MP4 player at Christmas on eBay. It was shipped from Hong Kong. It locked up on me a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had my music since. Until I read your article. I figured it couldn't hurt. It might even work. It worked. Thanks for helping me get my music back. 5***** and a recommend.I'm adding this one to my favorites!
