Step 1
Wash hands frequently. By doing this step, you could help prevent a common cold. Studies show by doing this step once you have a cold will shorten the cold’s duration.
-
Step 2
Drink plenty of water. This will help flush your immune system, and keep you hydrated.
-
Step 3
Drink hot Green Tea. Green Tea has many antioxidants for the immune system, and this will soothe the throat as well.
-
Step 4
Rest as much as possible. Listen to your body, resting as much as possible to rebuild your whole body.
-
Step 5
Exercise. If you have a regular exercise routine maintain it during a cold. If you are really tired or don’t feel up to it cut back on your intensity.
-
Step 6
Eat fewer items with sugar. Refined sugar weakens your immune system and will promote yeast growth to take place. This would include any soda pop or candies.
-
Step 7
Load your system with vitamins C along with zinc. Vitamin C can be taken in tablet form, or as a liquid such as Emergen-C, that can be purchased at a natural market like Whole foods. Zinc comes in lozenges, which also can be purchased at natural markets. Zinc lozenges will help soothe your throat during a cold.
-
Step 8
Add Garlic tablets to your daily vitamin/herbal regime. Take 2 to 3 capsules every 4 hours throughout the day. Garlic tablets can be purchased at Whole Foods or a similar place. Another way to get garlic is by eating 2 fresh garlic cloves daily.
-
Step 9
At night use Vick’s rub on your throat and chest. For adults, you can rub a small amount of Vick’s under your nose to relieve stuffiness and get a good night sleep.
-
Step 10
A bowl of Chicken Soup. We don’t know why this works, but this has been used for years. The best soup is homemade, but if that is not your forte use canned soup to take advantage of this old remedy.
-
Step 11
Steam in a sauna, hot tub, or over a hot pot of water with a bath towel tented over your head. Steams loosen up stuffy nasal passages.
