Keep Score in Classroom Bowling

I have been teaching Kindergarten since 1996 and have been doing a bowling thematic unit since 1998. I set up a 2-lane bowling alley in the classroom and have the kids keep score to teach them their math facts to 10.

The kids learn how to add all their math facts up to 10 by constantly counting their pins each time they bowl. The kids absolutely love this and learn all their math facts very quickly.

Here is how to teach them to keep score in bowling.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a white board that the kids can reach. I draw boxes and use magnetic numbers, which are way faster than having them write on the board each time.

    • 2

Label each lane with a title so that the kids know the difference between the lanes.

    • 3

Each time the kids bowl they need to adjust the score up on the board to reflect how many pins are standing and how many have been knocked down.

    • 4

The numbers in the coupled boxes should always add up to 10.
