Help Your Baby Walk
Help Your Baby Walk

You can help your baby walk fairly easily if you understand what to do. Maybe your child is a little slow to walk or is young, yet frustrated by their inability to walk. You can help your child to feel empowered by teaching them skills that will help your baby walk. Try to remember, though, that no matter what you do, your child will walk only when they are ready to walk. Even so, sometimes all they need is a little encouragement from Mom or Dad.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To help your baby walk, begin by getting toys that require them to stand. Think about a play kitchen or a workbench. These make great toys that encourage your little one to use their legs.

  2. Step 2

Buy a walker. These are controversial, but many people believe they can help your baby walk. Just be sure to choose a walker that forces your child to use their own leg muscles. Radio Flyer makes a great wagon that my son loves.

  3. Step 3

Offer your hands. You can help your baby walk by walking backwards while holding onto their hands. When they are confident enough, do this while only holding on to one hand. Your child will likely be excited to learn that they are capable of walking and this excitement will result in them learning to walk more quickly.

  4. Step 4

Finally, you can help your baby walk by encouraging your child with cheers and lots of praise when they begin taking their first steps unassisted. Talk about being a big girl or boy and make it fun for them. They'll be more likely to keep trying and to continue strengthening those leg muscles.
