How to Search by CUSIP
A CUSIP is an identification number assigned to securities, including stocks, by the Committee on Uniform Securities. It stands for Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures. Any registered stocks in the United States and Canada will have a CUSIP, so therefore you can search by CUSIP in order to find these investments. The following article will tell you how to search by CUSIP for stocks and other securities and investments.

Get your info together. You can't usually search by CUSIP alone. You also have to know what type of security it is. For example: stock, mutual fund, annuity, etc. Not all services require this, but many do. Some sites may require more or less info and offer different options.

Find a website to search on. There are many different services. Many of them will require that you register or have a membership in order to use their services. If you are a serious investor, you may already have access to a site where you can search by CUSIP. If this is the case, you won't have to look much further.

You can find sites by searching in your favorite search engine. I have listed several sites which you can search by CUSIP in the footer of this article. Feel free to check them out. They are some of the most reliable sources, but there are many other sites out there as well.

Check with your investment firm or stock broker to see if they can look them up for you. The internet, where convenient, is not the only place to get this information.

Great article. I actually knew what a CUSIP was...used to work with securities. If you find a stock certificate hiding in grand-dad's shoebox, look it up by CUSIP to see if it is still a viable stock. dlcass laid an egg.
