Step 1
Try to pick up some power weapons before you go after the oddball. You cannot use these weapons while holding the ball but you can drop the ball and then take out your enemy fast if you have the right weapons.

Step 2
In some gametypes, the oddball is a 1-hit-kill with melee. This is a great advantage because you can use secondary items like the bubble shield to help you out. Hide around corners and take cover until your enemy gets close and then melee.

Step 3
If you are playing team oddball, you can have one player sit at the ball spawn while the other player jumps off of the edge. Run away from the enemy team with the ball until you are about to die, then jump off of the edge. Your teammate should be waiting for the ball respawn. Repeat this process until you win the game.
