How to straighten your hair with a flat iron

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat Iron (aka Hair Straightener)
  • Heat Protector (I use Tresemme Products)
  • brush or comb
  • damp hair
  1. Step 1

Wash and condition your hair as you normally would. Rinse it with the coldest water you can handle (it's said that it gives your hair more shine).

  2. Step 2

Towel dry your hair until its damp, not soaking wet.

  3. Step 3

Plug in and turn on your straightener to the desired heat, and allow it to heat up while you do the next few steps.

  4. Step 4

Apply your heat protecting spray as well as any cream straightener stuff to help keep your hair straight.

  5. Step 5

Gently comb/brush your hair to evenly distribute the heat protecting spray as well as any other hair products you have placed in your hair.

  6. Step 6

Now its time to section off your hair! Start by your temples with your thumbs (palms up towards the ceiling), move your thumbs around your head above your ears until they meet in the back of your head. Whatever is above your hands put in a ponytail or a clip. Whatever is below your hands brush down with the rest of your hair that is not up.

  7. Step 7

Now its time to start straightening your hair. To make sure I get the best look out of the straightening process, I use a fine tooth comb, to make sure all my hair is not knotted up, before I run the flat iron through my hair. So comb out small sections of your hair, run the flat iron through your hair with the comb in front of it, so you can comb out any knots on the way down your hair.

  8. Step 8

Now all you have to do is just repeat step 7 until you've finished the bottom layer of hair, now undo the top layer, and repeat step 7 until you've completed the straight hair look!

  9. Step 9

Now you can add any other products that you'd like, such as hair spray, shine serum, as well as stuff for fly-aways!

Tips & Warnings
  • Try not to do this everyday, it will damage your hair if its done too much! Heat is not good for your hair.
