We're all short on money these days -- and that means there's no money for a new cell phone should the worse happen...if you drop your cell in the toilet or the sink, there is hope...learn how to save your wet cell phone here!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the cell phone from the water. Once a cell phone is dropped into water, it doesn’t take much time for water to seep into all the nooks and crannies. After this unfortunately happens, the most important thing to do is remove its lifeline, the battery, as soon as possible. If done quickly, there will be less chance of circuitry damage to the device.

  2. Step 2

If your phone is equipped with a SIM card, remove this card and set aside until your phone is restored.

  3. Step 3

Dry any visible moisture with a soft cloth or absorbent paper towel.

  4. Step 4

After removing any covers to the phone, use a vacuum cleaner or wet vac to slowly extract internal moisture. Do not use any drying device which blows hot or cold air out. A vacuum will pull the dampness away from any components within the phone. This process should take about 30 minutes or so.

  5. Step 5

a final drying phase, placing you phone in a bowl of dry rice or a commercial moisture absorber like Dry-Rid. Either of these products will soak up any lasting moisture.

  6. Step 6

Let your phone sit on a dry paper towel. If after a few hours you find there is still some wetness extracted to the paper towel, repeat vacuum and moisture absorbing steps.

  7. Step 7

When there is no evidence of any further moisture on that dry paper towel, reinsert the battery and test your phone. Hopefully, your device has been restored to perfect working order. If the phone does not power up, a service agent may be able to help you further.
