The first step that you must take in order to access your free legal research training is to point your browser to The Westlaw Paralegal Proficiency Certification page. This is a new program sponsored by West (Thomson West) Corporation to support the paralegal profession. A link to the website can be found by clicking below.

In the middle of the West Paralegal Proficiency page you will see a link that reads "Certification." Click on this link to move to the next phase.

In the middle of the certification page you will see a link that reads "Tutorial." Click this link to move on to the Westlaw training page. The very first time that you log in for your legal research training, you will be required to register. This process takes less than 60 seconds.

A new window will populate which will include an entire training course for the Westlaw legal research software. This program includes a full walk-through of the system. Once you have completed the entire course you will be able to navigate West's legal research system like a paralegal professional.
