So you want to make money writing erotic stories? Well there are ways. Don't listen to to those that tell you it's not possible. It is. Anything is if you work for it! Someone's going to make money doing it, it may as well be you! There are several approaches that if applied with determination will work for you!

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer, imagination, confidence and endurance.
  1. Step 1

If you are writing for yourself of significant other, it's fine to write about any scenario that comes to mind. But if you're expecting to make a profit from your writing, you're going to need to do some research. First, go to some of the websites that sell Erotica. A good place to start are sites like Ellorascave.com and looseid.com. Have a look at their top sellers. This will give a good idea of which topics are selling. Also check out the different types of erotica that the site publishes. For example there is erotica and then there is erotica romance. There are also some taboo topics with these publishers. Make sure you read the "rules" in the author's submission sections of these sites.

  2. Step 2

Besides writing a short book on a "hot topic", your writing will need to be good as well. Practice always makes perfect, well at least we hope it does. A good place to give your skills a test run is literotica.com. On this site, you can write short stories and publish them. You probably won't make any money from this site, but you will gain perspective into what people think about your skills. You can also read short stories and poems published by other authors. Don't be surprised if thousands of people read your stories. There is also a voting system. Readers vote on their favorite stories and small cash prizes are awarded each month for the best story. This is a great place to get your name or your pen name out there. But when you publish your story, you should know that allowing public comment on any of your stories will enable anyone that reads them to leave a comment. Public comments are usually made in general statements and attached to the bottom page of your story. Private comments allow anyone to leave you a private message which is forwarded to your e-mail through the site. While some of these comments can be distasteful, some are very encouraging and enlightening, written by other authors. Don't let that scare you off, that's what the trash folder was created for.

  3. Step 3

After your skills have been fine tuned, write your story. There is no magic formula to writing a top selling erotica book except knowing what sells and being willing to write it. What fans of erotica and erotica romance are looking for are stories that they can put themselves into, or relate to. If you are new or shy to this kind of writing, it might be a good idea to pretend that you are only writing for yourself and no one else will ever read it. After your story is complete, read it over, make changes and polish, polish, polish.

  4. Step 4

Now, if you submit your story and it is declined again and again, don't be discouraged. You may be a fantastic writer, but your story may not be exactly what the publisher is looking for at the moment. If this happens, there is nothing stopping you from submitting your story to another publisher. However, I don't recommend submitting your book to more than one e-publishing site at a time. Although it may seem like you are increasing your chances of having your book accepted, you may run into trouble if they both accept your book. While most e-publishers allow you to retain the copyrights of your work, they will more than likely want exclusive rights to sell them.

  5. Step 5

If after everything is said and done, and your book is not accepted by any of the erotica romance publishers, there is another alternative. Why not publish it yourself? Did you know that you can publish your e-book yourself on several different sites, including Amazon.com very easily? Read the "How to Make Money Writing and Selling e-books"
article on e-how (see the link at the bottom of this page). Good luck and keep writing!

on 8/29/2009 I'd like to comment on the authors "plug" of Literotica.com.

First and foremost, Literotica.com is NOT for the squeemish! They deal with very frank and explicit sex that ranges from the mundane to "taboo" subject matter! If reading and/or writing in the style of Penthouse Forum is ok with you, then by all means sign up. If you're serious about your writing and want to use the site to hone your skills, be prepared!

I have been a member of Literotica for some time, now, and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. I was under the impression that it was a writing site geared to help writers perfect and hone thier writing skills, however, this is not the case. Lit is filled with writers that could care less about content, spelling, and/or subject matter. Most of them are under the assumption that the "C" word is the only word needed to describe certain parts of the female anatomy, a...
