      With the blue yarn, chain 39, chain 1 and turn.

      Make a single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across, chain 1 and turn.

      Make a single stitch in 1st stitch, a double crochet in the next stitch and alternate from single crochet to double crochet in each stitch across; chain 1 and turn.

      Repeat step number 3 for rows three, four and five. In the last stitch of row 5, change to red, chain 1 and turn.

      Single crochet in each stitch across, chain 1 and turn. Repeat this step for row 7, changing to blue again.

      Repeat step 3 and change to red in last stitch, chain 1 and turn.

      Repeat step 5 for rows 10 and 11.
      Repeat step 6 for rows 12 and 13.
      Repeat step 5 for rows 14 and 15.
      Repeat step 3 for rows 16-48.
