Things You'll Need:
- Phillips screwdriver Drill Pencil Tape measure Eye protection
-
Step 1
Measure the window openings that you would like to cover with wood blinds. Be as exact as possible. If you plan to have your blinds custom cut, the person cutting your blinds will take your measurement and deduct half of an inch to arrive at the final blind size for your windows.
-
Step 2
Before you begin hanging hardware, remove the hardware from its container and be sure all of it is there. There are few things worse than being a screw or two short of a completed blind installation.
-
Step 3
Attach the brackets to the inside of the window opening (or outside if you prefer an outside mount). Screws can either be directed through the side or the top of the brackets.
-
Step 4
For large blinds, install the center support bracket. If a center support bracket is not provided with your hardware package, skip to Step 5.
-
Step 5
Slide the headrail into the brackets and close the retainers. Clip the headrail into the center support bracket as well.
-
Step 6
Attach the valance to the headrail. Valance installation varies from blind manufacturer to blind manufacturer, so consult the installation instructions for any special considerations for this step.
-
Step 7
Install the hold-down brackets if desired. Hold-down brackets will hold the blind in place while allowing it to still open and close.
-
Step 8
Shorten your blind if desired. Most wood blinds can be shortened by following the directions provided with the blind.
