Toaster covers are useful to protect your toaster against messy splashes, accidental scratches and the accumulation of dust. Purchasing an appliance cover may be expensive, and it is not always possible to find appliance covers that properly fit. Making a toaster cover out of towels is a quick and easy way to protect your toaster, ensure a perfect fit and coordinate your appliance with your kitchen theme. They are also completely machine washable.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two kitchen towels Sewing machine Matching thread

    Directions

  1. Step 1

Measure the length, width and height of your toaster, including enough room to account for any control knobs.

  2. Step 2

Cut one towel to cover the top, back and front (where the controls are) of the toaster. This piece will measure as the width of your toaster by the length plus height. Add an extra 1/4 inch on all sides as seam allowance.

  3. Step 3

Cut the second towel into two pieces to fit over the sides of the toaster. These will each measure the length by the width. Add an extra 1/4 inch seam allowance on all sides.

  4. Step 4

Iron the towel pieces. Line up the edge of the top piece with the bottom of one of the side pieces, and pin three sides of the side piece to the top piece, right sides in. Make sure the pattern or design on the towel will face the correct way when the cover is turned right-side out.

  5. Step 5

Sew the pieces together. Pin the other side piece to the top piece in the same manner and sew.

  6. Step 6

Pin the bottom of the cover to create a 1/8 inch hem. Sew the hem.

Tips & Warnings
  • Measure your toaster before you purchase towels to make sure they will fit.
