There are lots of ways to cook ribs. In the oven is just one of them. If you want to know how to cook ribs in the oven, you probably do not have a barbeque or a smoker and that is OK. If you get good ribs (either from a local butcher or mail order ribs) you can still make them tender and taste great. The following article will tell you how to cook ribs in the oven. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Buy your ribs. You can do beef or pork and the process is the same. Make sure there is lots of meat on the bone. You can get them at the local grocery store, but you may not always be getting the freshest or best cuts this way. It is best to do mail order ribs or go to a local butcher. The mail order ribs seam odd to many people, but it makes it so that you can get the best meat from anywhere in the country, so it is a great option.

    • 2

Brine your ribs. The base of the brine is vinegar, water and salt, but you can add different seasonings to it as well so it can double as a marinade. This step is very important because it tenderizes the meat.

    • 3

After the ribs have brined over night, take them out and pat them dry with paper towels. Season them heavily with salt pepper and garlic. You can do any number of other dry rubs at this time as well, but these are the necessities. If you do a dry rub you might want to let it sit in the fridge for a few hours before proceeding to let the flavors soak in.

    • 4

Put the ribs into a crock pot on high or a pot of water on a low simmer. Let them cook this way for up to 2 hours or unit the meat is cooked through. Don't overcook them. They will need to be monitored.

    • 5

Pull the ribs out and wrap them in foil. Put them into a 400 degree oven for about thirty minutes.

    • 6

Pull back the foil. If you want to add bbq sauce, you can put a layer on at this time. Put them back in the oven until they are browned up or until the bbq sauce is caramelized and nice and sticky. Pull them out and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you do mail order ribs, make sure you are ordering from a reputable place. You can get really good pieces of meat this way, which are not likely available locally. Mail order ribs may just be the wave of the future for meat.
