1
Consider a variety of topics. Try if you can to pick something about which you are personally passionate. If you feel gas-guzzling SUVs should be replaced by hybrid and electric cars, you'll have an easier time writing on the topic. Make a list of topics you think may be interesting, and do some "Googling" to see what information exists about potential topics.

2
Avoid over-done topics. Do a Google search on "tired persuasive topics" and you will find whole articles written about persuasive topics that have been presented too many thousands of time- these include abortion, affirmative action, death penalty, recycling, sex and violence in the media, etc. When you are narrowing your topic choices, try to choose something fresh and interesting.

Research your topic. Once you have made your final selection, you'll need to read, read, read on the subject. First read everything the internet has to offer, and through that reading find at least two books on the subject which you can then find at a library or purchase. You will want to be as much of an expert on your persuasive speech topic as possible.

Present Well. Using visual backup like a Power Point presentation or dry erase board with bullet points helps your listeners create a mental picture of the points you are presenting. Be brief and to the point. Your body language should be confident and your appearance professional.
