Do you ever wonder why swimsuits look so perfect on celebrities and pageant contestants? The secret is in the tailoring - you CAN modify your swimsuit to suit you to a "T."

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Swimsuit you like, but are not afraid to alter.
  • A good seamstress or tailor.

Let's start at the top: if your swimsuit is gapping at the chest, or you could use some "enhancement" in the bust region, purchase waterproof breast cups (I prefer foam, which is waterproof and significantly less expensive than its plastic counterpart). These can be bought at Wal-Mart or any other sewing specialty store. Have a seamstress sew the cups into the lining of the swimsuit - do not rely on tape or other adhesive methods to secure the pads - they will most likely fall out!

  3. Step 3
Although it looks pretty good on the model, this swimsuit bottom is far too thick on the sides. A good seamstress can decrease the side material. (Photo courtesy of http://www.foxnews.com.)

Not let's examine the bottoms - to give yourself the most flattering angle, you will want the swimsuit to hit slightly above your hip. Some swimsuits tend to have too much material on the bottom, which can be unflattering.

  4. Step 4
Even on these one-piece swimsuits, the models have the suit above their hip bones. (Photo courtesy of: http://img2.timeinc.net/instyle/images/2007/galleries/041007_allover_400X400.jpg.)

This principle is true not only for bikinis, but one pieces as well. Try not to let the material go too far past your hip bone. Your seamstress can take up the excess fabric for a more flattering fit.

  5. Step 5

If ties on the top are distracting, or preventing you from achieving the desired fit, a seamstress can turn a string-tie top into one securely fastened by a clip. By replacing the clip, you will have a more stable
