Everyone has their own idea when it comes to what dogs need nutritionally. That said, most dog foods that are sold are filled with a bunch of things your dog doesn't need. This recipe is one I use for my own dog and he is a healthy, happy dog.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 pound ground meat
  • 1/2 cup chopped spinach
  • 1/2 cup cooked carrots
  • 1 cup oatmeal not cooked
  • 1 serving of plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • Vitamin supplement
  1. Step 1

Cook ground meat in frying pan. You can use any lean ground meat such as chicken, pork or beef. Try to find organic or meat that is hormone or antibiotic free.

  2. Step 2

Steam your vegetables. When steamed put vegetables in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Step 3

Mix yogurt and pumpkin in a small bowl. I also add Dr. Pitcairn's healthy powder to my dog's food at this point. That can be found in his book Natural Health for Dog's and Cats. I will also paste a link to the recipe below. Whether or not you use this powder is up to you.

  4. Step 4

Put the cooked meat in the mixing bowl with the steamed vegetables. Mix in the yogurt/pumpkin mix. Add the oats. Mix until all ingredients are blended together.

  5. Step 5

If your dog likes a stew-like food leave the mix as it is. If your dog likes a loaf style food puree the mix in a food processor or blender.

  6. Step 6

Freeze what you will not use in three days. I freeze my food in three days worth of servings at a time. So, I always have one container in the refrigerator and the rest in the freezer.
