How to Shut Down Your Computer FASTER

Shut down your computer quicker without having to point and click more than once.

By following these steps, you can have your computer shut down much faster than by doing it the normal way.

Things You'll Need

• Computer running XP or Vista

Instructions

1. You can reprogram your system's power button to exit Windows, without any prompts (except to save unsaved work if necessary).

2. For Windows XP, open the Control Panel.

   For Windows Vista users, click the START button and type "power options" and press enter.

3. Windows XP - Select Performance and Maintenance and launch Power Options

   Windows Vista - Select Power Options from the search list.

4. Windows XP - Click the Advanced tab and under "When I press the power button on my computer", select SHUTDOWN and click OK.

   Windows Vista - Select "Choose what the power button does" in the upper left and then choose SHUTDOWN. Then click "Save Changes".

5. Everything should be ready to go now. To test, I would recommend closing all programs and then selecting the power button your computer.
