Interested in enjoying that wonderfully green fruit some of us called an alligator pear or by common terms an avocado, but are totally unsure how to slice it to eat?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Avocado (ripe)
  • Knife
  • Spoon
  1. Step 1

After selecting your avocado or choice, slice the avocado vertically with the knife all the way around the avocado until the cut goes all the way around vertically.

  2. Step 2

Once the avocado is cut vertically, twist the two sides slightly and the avocado should come apart in two pieces, one side will have the large seed.

  3. Step 3

Remove the seed from the avocado either with the spoon if you have one of the can get the seed with the knife and get it out that way (but please be careful with this method if you have never done it before)

  4. Step 4

Once you have removed the seed, using the knife slice the flesh (the light green part) gently vertically into many slices (like 4 times), cutting all the way through the flesh but not the skin. Then repeat this step but going horizontally. This will give me abunch of squared pieces of avocado.

  5. Step 5

Once you have done that, take the spoon and scoop around edge of the flesh where it meets the skin and go around the avocado. This will begin to loose the flesh of the avocado and the it should start falling out into your bowl. Enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want just slices, not cubes, do not repeat step 4 doing the horizonal cut. Just proceed onto step 5 after cutting the flesh vertically.
