If you have a bag of mismatched socks, you have the makings of a fashion wardrobe for the dolls we grew up with. Barbie type dolls are the ones I mean. When I was a little girl my mom would take the socks that got holes in the toes and turn them into clothes for my doll. I am the oldest of five and it was a quick and cheap way to dress my doll. She all so embroidered so some of them were quite fancy.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean old socks
  • scissors
  • trim like ribbon and bric a brac
  1. Step 1

Cut the toe out the the sock (save it to make a matching hat for the doll)
Cut arm holes right under where you cut the toe off. Cut the sock just above the heel. Tada. Dress. Add trim, a belt and the hat. Chic outfit in 2 minutes. Now you are going to start getting into it. Add a decorative matching trim to the hat and the dress.

  2. Step 2

The leg portion of the sock is the second part that can be used for a dress, or skirt, or vest. Match a vest to a skirt. You can sew the cut off end of the ankle part of a long one and make a doll sleeping bag for pretend campouts. Sew both ends and stuff it and you made a doll matress or futon. Cut one of the leg parts in half you have a blanket or throw for your doll house. Just use a marker or thread and decorate it like a little quilt.

  3. Step 3

Athletic socks are usually the first to wear out, but if you get lucky and end up with some fancy dress socks that got a hole, you have hit doll fashion gold.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add beads, glitter, trim, ruffles, whatever and soon your little girl will have an entire wardrobe she will be thrilled with.
  • Don't use daddy's good dress socks.
