Step 1
Look at your state's licensing board to see if the cosmetic dentist is licensed. If they are, look further to find out if any disciplinary action has been taken against them. What has this cosmetic dentist done wrong in the past? Was it a major infraction?
-
Step 2
Visit your local courthouse to review malpractice files. Remember that just because a cosmetic dentist has had malpractice filed against them does not mean that they are necessarily a bad dentist, however several malpractice files in a span of a few years should be a warning sign to you.
-
Step 3
Some cosmetic dentists are actually regular dentists that simply advertise themselves as cosmetic dentists. Ask them what specific training and experience they have to be considered a true cosmetic dentist.
-
Step 4
If you have a specific procedure in mind, as the cosmetic dentist how many times they have performed that procedure before. Ask for before and after photos to help you get an idea about their quality of work.
-
Step 5
Ask the dentist about what type of follow up care they will give after the procedure and what they plan on doing if any complications arise. A good dentist has these plans outlined in his cosmetic procedure.
