Step 1
Have a skeptical eye when looking for cosmetic dentists in directories, the internet, or commercial advertising. Newspapers, Yellow Pages, and TV stations do not typically research qualifications when advertising for a particular cosmetic dentist. They are just looking for advertising dollars. Remember that just because your favorite magazine has an add for a particular dentist does not mean that they are actually quality cosmetic dentists.
-
Step 2
Check with any friends or family who have had a cosmetic dental procedure done. First had accounts from trusted individuals can be valuable resources when looking for a cosmetic dentist.
-
Step 3
If you trust your family doctor, ask for their recommendation to a cosmetic dentist. Some doctors may just refer you to one of their colleagues, while others will actually take the time to help you find a reputable, quality dentist. Depending on your relationship with your family doctor, this may or may not be an option for you.

Step 4
dentist's chairVisit the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's website for a list of members. The cosmetic dentists who obtain a membership to this organization are classified as highly trained and skilled. Just click on the "find a cosmetic dentist" button on the main page to start your search.

on 4/3/2009 A good question to ask is where the dentist received their esthetic (cosmetic) education - at a dental school or from a manufacturer of cosmetic dentistry materials? Dental school is the stronger answer. Thank you.
