Many people turn to cosmetic dentistry to help them with their smile. Choosing the right cosmetic dentist is crucial before undergoing any kind of dental surgery or treatment. When looking for potential cosmetic dentists, keep these points in mind.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have a skeptical eye when looking for cosmetic dentists in directories, the internet, or commercial advertising. Newspapers, Yellow Pages, and TV stations do not typically research qualifications when advertising for a particular cosmetic dentist. They are just looking for advertising dollars. Remember that just because your favorite magazine has an add for a particular dentist does not mean that they are actually quality cosmetic dentists.

  2. Step 2

Check with any friends or family who have had a cosmetic dental procedure done. First had accounts from trusted individuals can be valuable resources when looking for a cosmetic dentist.

  3. Step 3

If you trust your family doctor, ask for their recommendation to a cosmetic dentist. Some doctors may just refer you to one of their colleagues, while others will actually take the time to help you find a reputable, quality dentist. Depending on your relationship with your family doctor, this may or may not be an option for you.

  4. Step 4

Visit the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's website for a list of members. The cosmetic dentists who obtain a membership to this organization are classified as highly trained and skilled. Just click on the "find a cosmetic dentist" button on the main page to start your search.

on 4/3/2009 A good question to ask is where the dentist received their esthetic (cosmetic) education - at a dental school or from a manufacturer of cosmetic dentistry materials? Dental school is the stronger answer. Thank you.
