You can save money on household cleaning supplies and use better more powerful cleaners and save money by buying and using commercial cleaning products.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Local Phone Directory, telephone
  1. Step 1

Decide what cleaning products you use. Multipurpose cleaners are used for mopping floors and general cleaning. Glass cleaner can be used for all hard surfaces. A Cleaner disinfectant is used to clean areas that need to be disinfected, kitchen and bathroom areas. Porcelain cleaner is a mild acid product to remove hard water and urine salts from toilets and bathroom fixtures. Bowl Cleaners are a stronger more caustic acid to clean salts and hard water from toilet bowls.

  2. Step 2

Look in your local phone book for a commercial janitorial supply company. In larger to moderate size areas there should be several. Call and ask if they sell to the public. Some will only sell to contractors, but most will be happy to sell their products to the general public. Most will sell in less than full cases. General purpose cleaners, disinfectants and some glass cleaners will only be sold in one gallon bottles. The larger size will seem like it is costing more, but per once prices will be lower than heavily advertised, packaged grocery store products. Some glass cleaner and other products are sold in concentrated forms that will need to be mixed with up to five gallons of water. Avoid these products form home use.

  3. Step 3

Purchase and use the products you need. Remember these are commercial grade products that are more concentrated and stronger than grocery store products. Less product will be needed and will clean better.

Tips & Warnings
  • If storing cleaning products in smaller containers, be sure to clearly label containers to indicate contents. Never use food or beverage container for storage. Janitorial supply companies have plain unmarked spray bottles for use with standard cleaners such as general purpose cleaners and disinfectants.
  • Do not use bowl cleaners for home use. These products are strong acids and should only be used with protective gloves and goggles. Never mix cleaning chemicals together. Some chemicals when mixed together can produce deadly gases. When used as indicated there is no risk.
