Step 1
Get your facts straight first before attempting to become a certified landscape designer so you don't accidentally work towards the wrong goals. This is best accomplished by visiting their website at APLD.org or giving them a call and requesting an informational packet.
-
Step 2
Generally speaking, you'll need to have at least four years of relevant and professional work experience before you apply to become a certified landscape designer. If you don't have the experience yet it's best to just work at getting the experience and learn as much as possible first.

Step 3
Education is another factor in becoming a certified landscape designer, and although it's not a requirement it definitely can't hurt you and will only help with the approval process. Any type of education could help you even if its not a formal degree, it could be as simple as a class or something else that you pursued.

Step 4
You will also need to have a portfolio of three professionally completed projects that you can submit for review in order to become a certified landscape designer. These will be submitted along with your completed application and other materials which are all available on their website.
