Things You'll Need:
- Tanning wipes, gel, lotion or spray
-
Step 1
Before you apply the tanning product, you must first take a shower, exfoliate and shave. Your skin must be free of any lotions, dirt, etc...for the tanning product to adhere better and not have any splotchy look.
-
Step 2
You can spray tan at a salon or at home. Either method works. Sometimes the salon has darker mists or more precise application, but you can pretty much do the same thing at home. Apply lotion to cover all nail beds on your hands and toes. Also, apply lotion on knees, under the soles of the foot and elbows as tanning products tend to accumulate around these areas. Apply tanning spray, gel or wipe evenly all over your body. You can also use plastic gloves to protect the palms of hands from getting colored. You must apply the tanning product before using any all over lotion.
-
Step 3
Let dry. If you wet immediately, the product can end up uneven. It usually takes just 1-10 minutes to fully dry depending on the product. Read instructions carefully. Also, some of them can smell, including ones at the salon. There are products you can purchase at beauty stores that come in spray form and eliminate the tan odor. Use these if you cannot stand the smell. Furthermore, you have to make sure the product is completely dry before wearing any clothing as it can stain if it isn't dry.
