You can avoid pranks on April Fool's Day

You swore you'd never fall for another April Fool's Day prank. Now it's time to keep that promise by following these easy steps for how to avoid pranks on April Fool's Day.

From Quick Guide: April Fool's Day
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

BE PREPARED. The best way not to be the butt of an April Fool's Day prank is to prepare ahead of time. Circle the date in red on the calendar and get into the April Fool's Day mindset the night before. It's not a bad idea, especially if you're susceptible to April Fool's Day pranks, to write a note the night before reminding yourself it's going to be April Fool's Day and leave it on your night stand, so you'll see it first thing in the morning.

  2. Step 2

PAY ATTENTION. On April Fool's Day, be alert to pranks all day long. That means check your seat every time you sit down. Watch where you put your feet and hands. Be suspicious of strange packages. Don't believe everything you hear, especially when it's really good or really bad news. And be especially careful when you're on the computer. Don't open emails from anyone you don't know. And be cautious even with emails from people you do know!

  3. Step 3

TAKE A TRIP. If you can afford to get away, plan to be somewhere that doesn't "celebrate" April Fool's Day with pranks. Then you can just relax and enjoy yourself, like any other day.

  4. Step 4

USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM. Plan ahead to be with a friend you trust on April Fool's Day. You can look out for each other and enjoy the day together prank-free.

  5. Step 5

HIDE. If you don't answer your phone or the doorbell, or leave your house, chances are you're not going to be the butt of pranks on April Fool's Day. But you're also not going to have much fun. So try the tips above and enjoy this April Fool's Day.

Tips & Warnings
  • If despite your best efforts you become the victim of a harmless April Fool's Day prank, try to be a good sport.
  • However, if you are the victim of a dangerous or cruel prank, do not hesitate to contact the authorities.
