Installing a grab bar in a bathtub is not too difficult, depending on the tub there are different types of installations. Fiberglass is the norm of many bathtubs today so Ill explain how I installed a grab bar that seemed to work fine

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Grab bar
  • Toggle Bolts 3/8ths
  • screw driver or drill
  1. Step 1

The first step is to plan where you are going to mount the bathtub grabbar, if installing for someone else have them demonstrate where they need to grab to use the bar. Once you have a location, level the grabbar how you want it positioned, some go sideways horizontal or other ways. Mark out the holes that you have prefilled in your grabbar.

  2. Step 2

The next step is to drill out the holes in the tub with a 1/4 inch drill bit, this is where the toggle bolts will go in and secure the grabbar. be carefull when drilling, if you hit a stud in the back of the bathtub you may be able to use screws or another method of anchoring.

  3. Step 3

If toggles are all you can use set the grabbar over the holes, push in the toggles until they fit in the wall. Screw down the toggle bolts and be sure not to overtighten. This is a way to install in fiberglass bathtubs, its not the best way Im sure but Ive done it and it seems to work and Ive had no complaints so far. Good Luck dave

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful when installing, dont overtighten toggle bolts
  • Be careful when drilling or using power tools around water.
