No sundae is complete without whipped cream - but how about mint flavored whipped cream? Mint tastes great with chocolate. Think about all the delicious ways mint pairs with chocolate, from Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies to York Peppermint Patties. If you love the refreshing taste of mint, you can easily make mint flavored whipped cream using herbs you grow yourself in your herb garden.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two cups of heavy cream
  • Fresh mint (peppermint or spearmint herbs are fine)
  • Powdered sugar (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 small drop vanilla extract
  • Mixer
  • Metal mixing bowl
  1. Step 1

Cut six to ten stems from the mint plant. Make sure that each piece is about five to six inches long. Wash thoroughly and dry. You may want to use a bit of kitchen twine to tie the stems together into what cooks call a bouquet garni, or an herb bundle. Gently press your fingers along the mint leaves to crush them a bit.

  2. Step 2
    Use only heavy whipping cream.

Place the mint bundle or mint twigs into the bottom of the metal mixing bowl. Pour the heavy cream over it. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a bag, and place it into the coldest part of your refrigerator. Refrigerate overnight.

When you are ready to make the whipped cream, remove the herb bundle or the twigs of mint. Place the bowl under your mixer and began to mix at the whipping setting or a high setting. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, a little bit at a time. Add one drop or two of vanilla extract.

  4. Step 4

Whip the mixture until soft peaks form. Taste to make sure you have enough vanilla and sugar; add more and continue whipping until the whipped cream is the desired consistency.

  5. Step 5

Serve mint whipped cream over warm brownies right from the oven. Other ideas include using it as a topping for chocolate sundaes, on chocolate cake, or to top off cocoa or coffee. Whatever you decide to do, refrigerate the unused portions - if any of the mint whipped cream is left!

Tips & Warnings
  • You can also make LEMON and CHOCOLATE flavored whipped cream the same way, using lemon balm for Lemon Whipped Cream and Chocolate Basil or Chocolate Mint for the chocolate whipped cream.
