Making hair accessories for kids can be fun for the whole family. The number of ideas is endless, the key is to be creative and use what you have around the house. Remember, if you decide to make this a kids activity and you are going to use a hot glue gun and scissors, keep them safely away from them. If you are going to be using buttons, you can make this another kids activity by taking them to a flea market or grafts store in search of pretty and unique buttons that they will use to decorate their hair accessories.

You can start by decorating the bobby pins. There are many ways in which you can dress the bobby pins: 1) tie a ribbon tightly into a small bow to the of the bobby pin, through and at the looped end, 2) glue or with a needle and thread, secure an pretty button to the looped end of the bobby pin, 3) cut some felt or thick fabric into a simple flower shape, glue a pretty button to the center and glue and/or thread the flower to the looped end of the bobby pin, 4) curl about 4 foot long pieces of plastic ribbon with scissors (just like one does when wrapping presents), put the curls together, tie them in the middle with a small piece of ribbon and tie to the looped end of the bobby pins. The previously mentioned ideas can also be used on plain hair clips, you will most likely need to use a hot gun to hold, for example, the felt flower in place.

Hairbands can also be decorated in numerous ways. Hot glue small colored pompoms (found in craft stores) to the hairband; create some felt flowers with button centers (as mentioned in step 2) and glue them to the headband; glue different types of pretty and unique buttons to the hairband. Be creative! Use things that are available, you can even use small shells to decorate the headbands and hair clips. And don't forget to let the kids decide where things go, which colors they want (as they won't be able to use the hot glue gun to put them in place).
