Things You'll Need:
- Automatic Transmission Car
- Parallel Parking Spot Markers
-
Step 1
Prepare for your test. Have at least 100 hours of driving experience under your belt before taking the test. Be comfortable with driving a car. Practice parallel parking in a parking lot between 2 objects that simulate a parking spot and will not dent your car when backed into. Practice this until you are able to successfully park without hitting the markers.
-
Step 2
Adjust your mirrors before the start of the test. Make sure you have excellent visibility. Be aware of how to turn on your head lights and emergency flashers because the driving instructor will ask you to. Buckle up. Release your parking break and turn on your car.
-
Step 3
Look out of your rear view mirror and back out of the parking space slowly. Prepare to parallel park. Drive up to the space and align your car to the curb in a parallel position. Use your turn signal. Drive slowly forward and stop when the rear of your car is aligned with the front space marker. Put it into reverse and turn your steering wheel all the way to the side facing the space. Slowly back in and straighten out your car. Do not get frustrated. Keep trying if you are not able to do it the first time. Signal and drive out of the space.
-
Step 4
Come to a complete stop when approaching stop lights and stop signs. Always signal where you are going. Break easily and accelerate slowly. Obey the speed limit. Maintain a 3 second following distance when behind other vehicles. Yield to pedestrians when returning to the driving center. Signal and pull into the spot straight and evenly. Engage the parking break and turn off the car. Unbuckle your seat belt. Remain relaxed and calm throughout the duration of the test.
