Whether you suffer from facial redness as the result of a medical condition like rosacea, skin irritation or simply because you have a ruddy complexion, there are options to lessen the look to have a more even complexion. Consider the following solutions that can help you reduce facial redness.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wash your face with gentle facial cleansers instead of harsh soaps to reduce facial redness. Use your hands to swirl the cleanser into your skin rather than scrubbing with a washcloth and pat your face dry. Holding a cold cloth to your skin for fifteen minutes can also lessen redness temporarily.

  2. Step 2

Stop using skin care treatments that feature ingredients like retinol designed to combat wrinkles. If you’re using an anti-wrinkle cream (particularly in winter months) and suddenly noticing increased skin redness, it could be caused by a retinol irritation. If you’d rather not give up the wrinkle cream, try using limiting the use to twice a week instead of every night to lessen facial redness.

  3. Step 3

Consider using a calming cream that features hydrocortisone to minimize redness by combating inflammation. Specially designed skin care treatment creams can also reduce skin redness by contrasting it with a green hue.

  4. Step 4

See a dermatologist to receive Intense Pulsed Light therapy, also known as photorejuvenation. Initially designed as a hair removal tool, the therapy’s broad spectrum light is also an effective way to reduce facial redness associated with Rosacea. Even one skin care treatment can reduce skin redness, but be aware that you may have mild blistering, redness or swelling for a couple of days after the treatment.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your facial redness only rosacea related, consult your dermatologist to find the best treatment to minimize redness since some skin care treatments (like those containing benzoyl peroxide or alcohol) may exacerbate the condition.
