If you are ready to avoid chemical Easter egg dyes and the mess it can cause, color eggs with food! Kids really enjoy having the opportunity of playing with food and coloring their Easter eggs the old fashioned way. Using food to color eggs is like doing a science experiment and it's something they will always remember and talk about with their friends. To color eggs with food, follow these simple instructions for beautiful Easter eggs.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eggs
  • saucepan
  • vinegar
  • spices
  • plants
  • herbs
  • water
  1. Step 1

    Begin by placing white eggs into a saucepan that has just enough water to cover the eggs. Add the food, plants or spices, along with two tablespoons of vinegar.

  2. Step 2

    For yellow eggs, use ground turmeric, carrot tops, or onions skins. The longer the onion skins are simmered, the darker the color will be.

    For brown eggs, use ground cinnamon.

    For orange eggs, use ground paprika

    For a beige brown color, boil eggs with coffee grounds.

    For lavender eggs, boil eggs with concord grape juice, yellow apple skins or blackberries.

    For green eggs, boil eggs with spinach.

    For pink eggs, boil eggs with chopped beets.

    For reddish tan eggs, boil eggs with black tea or beet roots.

    After desired color effect is achived, rinse eggs with cold water and let the eggs air dry. Display the eggs in a bowl or store in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some eggs will take longer than others to dye
