How to Enhance the Look of Excel Cells and Reports the Easy Way with AutoFormat Templates

Format your Excel cells one at a time or a range at a time in the same way or with different looks. Instead of spending all this time formatting, Excel has already done some of the work for you by building AutoFormat templates you can use on your tables of data in Excel.

        Open your worksheet. Select data range to be formatted, using only the data and your column and row headings.

        Select "Format" from the menu bar. From the sub-menu, select "AutoFormat."

        Select a table format, which may be previewed in Sample area. Click on the desired format to select it. Use the "Option" button to remove any formatting. Do this in the new "Format to Apply" area by clicking to uncheck what you do not want carried over to your cells. Watch the sample area to see how the template will change without the items you select to remove. When the sample has the desired look, click the "OK" button to apply the format.

        Review your work. When you return to your worksheet it will have the new AutoFormat template applied to your selected range. If you like it, save your worksheet. If you do not what you see, click the "Undo" icon on the standard toolbar and start over if desired.
