Anyone can look up at the sky and find a few recognizable stars, but to know the names of constellations and planets takes a real knack and can be a knack. People have found jobs as amateur astronomers. Here's a few tips to help you get started with this hobby.

    Get a home planetarium. These grown up toys are great for conversation and family learning. Many have the ability to shine on any surface including the ceiling. Pointers and manuals explaining the stars come with them. There are even some with voice.

  2. Step 2
     

    Buy a telescope and find several books on the subject of astronomy. Try going to a planetarium and then using your own telescope to find some of the near by stars that you learn about with it.

  3. Step 3
     

    Check for classes that are usually very inexpensive and at times free at the Hayden Planetarium if you are in New York or your local museum and planetarium in your city and state. You may find a certification program.
