How to Make Carpet Cleaner

Save

There are two good reasons to make your own carpet cleaner. First, you will save money because the ingredients to make your own homemade carpet cleaner are far less expensive than commercial chemical carpet cleaners. Next, you'll have a healthier home because you'll be using natural ingredients rather than chemicals.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Scrub brush
  • Mix 1/2 gallon of water with 1/2 cup white vinegar.

  • Add 1/4 cup baking soda.

  • Stir together to form a loose paste.

  • Dip a scrub brush into the mixture and brush it into the carpet. Start at one corner of the room and work your way to the other until the entire carpet is covered. Use some extra elbow grease on stains.

  • Allow the mixture to dry.

  • Vacuum up the residue.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are other combinations of natural cleaning solutions that you can use for carpet cleaning. Another popular one is a mixture of ammonia and baking soda (instead of using vinegar).
  • If you have a steam cleaner, you can use a natural solution of water and vinegar in the cleaner to clean your carpets.
  • In some rare cases, your carpet could be damaged by this cleaner. Test a patch in an inconspicuous area before cleaning the whole carpet.
