Step 1
Cut back on your food intake. You don't have to cut everything out, start small and make little changes. Example: instead of having 2 heaping spoons of potatoes have 1, instead of having 3 regular sodas in a day have 1 regular and 2 diet. Making small changes last.
-
Step 2
Find ways to burn more calories in a day. Again start small. I haven't been to a gym ever, but I am losing weight gradually. Start by walking extra steps. Move around a little more during the day. Examples: When you go to the bathroom do 5 jumping jacks, park a little further away from work. When you are at your desk move around some, shake your legs, move side to side, just something extra.
-
Step 3
Start your day with breakfast. Everyone says, have breakfast, well what if you are not a breakfast person? I'm not. I usually grab a granola bar. Just something to tide you over where you will eat less at lunch.
-
Step 4
Weigh yourself regularly. With my personal experience I found it to be better to weigh myself every other day. Pick a time of day and do it around the same time every time. This keeps me motivated.
Even if you do not do it every other day, set a certain time you want to weigh yourself. Be consistent with you weighing. -
Step 5
Find you a support group. If you don't want a support group find a website. I have found a site that is free and has great tools. sparkpeople.com. It is the best that I have found at setting goals, watching calories, discussing problems and more.
-
Step 6
Make small goals. Go for 5 lbs at a time it works best for me.

on 8/6/2009 This makes a lot of sense. When I used to jog 4 miles every other day I didn't really lose weight although I got in better shape. I beleive, as your article concurs, dieting is the single biggest factor in weight loss. Great article.
