How to Turn Baby Shoes Into Keepsakes

If your old enough you might remember when people used to bronze their babies shoes as keepsakes, bookends, paper weights, knick-knacks, etc. You can actually by pass the bronzer middleman and do a faux version yourself. Makes a nice present for grandma or dad for his desk.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • baby shoes
  • can of spray verathane
  • can of your choice of color metallic spray paint.
  • base if desired.
  1. Step 1

    With a stiff dry brush quickly brush entire surface. If patent leather very lightly sand paper or abrade surface or make surface tacky with non- glossy or flat clear verathane. Spray inside and out with clear verathane. Let dry.

  2. Step 2

    Lightly sand or abrade surface spray with your color choice of metallic paint. Let dry. Repeat. Abrade surface repeat spraying with metallic spray paint. Let dry. Last coat abrade lightly and spray with final coat of clear verathane.

  3. Step 3

    After completely dry mount to wood or metal display with strong contact cement. Or if they are to be used seperately as bookends on seperate mountings, or without.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you place them on newspaper you will have a protected area to work on.
  • You can cover them with glass or plastic dome or display as dusting laces and insides can be time consuming and difficult.
  • Do this in a well ventilated area as the fumes are toxic.
  • Do not expose to open flames like cigarette lighters or candles unto totally dried and cured.
