Step 1
First you need to locate some free stuff. This isn't as difficult as it may sound. Good sources can be online classifieds. You can find these by simply searching for "online classifieds". Once you find these types of sites, see if there are any listings for free stuff in your area. Also, scan the classified sections of your local newspapers for free items.
If you find items you are interested in, follow the instructions given to contact the person listing the free stuff. This is usually done by email or phone. If the items are still available you will need to make arrangements to pick the items up. -
Step 2
In addition to looking at ads, keep your eyes peeled for friends and neighbors giving away freebies or people that put stuff up for grabs by the side of the road. Garage sales can be a great resource as many people will give their items away once the sale is over.
Don't overlook what may appear to be garbage, most metals can be scrapped as a way to make money and ugly furniture can often easily be transformed with a couple coats of paint. -
Step 3
Get free stuff sent to you online. There are tons of legitimate freebies given away everyday. These are usually samples and promotional items given out by manufacturers. Examples of items are free food, t-shirts and more. There are several good online sources that compile lists of current free offers. You can find these types of web sites by searching for "free stuff forums", "free samples list" etc.
-
Step 4
Take online surveys. Some of these will pay you money, but several pay in gift cards and merchandise.
Use search sites where you can get free stuff. These work just like other search engines, but you can receive gift cards and other items for searching. These are sometimes known as paid to search web sites. -
Step 5
Learn how to play "The Drugstore Game", which isn't really a game, but a way to get free stuff and save money at drugstores. There are blogs and web sites devoted to just this subject because it is such a popular way to make money.
-
Step 6
Once you start getting free stuff decide how you want to make money from it. Just getting freebies can save you money, but you can also benefit from items you don't want to keep. This is why you may want to get samples for things even if you never intend to use them.
-
Step 7
Have a garage sale and compile free samples of items such as shampoo, razors, beauty products etc. to sell.(If this isn't something you want to do remember these make great stocking stuffers or donations to shelters.)
Larger items you've found roadside or through other free sources make good garage sale inventory as well, or you can sell them through classifieds. -
Step 8
Sell any unwanted gift cards for money through online auctions, classifieds or other means. These can also be traded for gift cards you will use, or can save you money if you want to give them as gifts.
-
Step 9
Look at other opportunities to get free stuff and sell it. For example it is not uncommon for restaurants to give away old or broken restaurant equipment. You may find there is a market for this, whether selling through classifieds, auctions or to local used restaurant supply houses.
-
Step 10
These are just some of the ways to make money with free stuff. Take a look around and you'll probably come up with others. Even small things sold here and there can add up to a substantial amount of extra money.
