How to Get Oil off the Driveway
If you have a motor vehicle and a driveway, oil stains may be inevitable. There are steps you can take to prevent oil stains. Get your car serviced regularly and lay down a tarp if you plan to change your own oil or work on your vehicle on your driveway. If you have a vintage car with a persistent leak, a large piece of cardboard can catch the drips. Things You'll Need
- Cat litter
- Push broom
- Grease-cutting detergent
- Water
- Scrub brush
- Rag
- Pan

Apply a generous amount of cat litter to the oil on your driveway. This will absorb the liquid but will not remove the stain. Let the litter sit for several hours.

Use a push broom to sweep up the cat litter, along with the oil it absorbed from your driveway.

Pour grease-cutting detergent directly onto the oil stain.

Scrub the detergent for a few minutes using a scrub brush.

Pour on a small amount of very hot water and continue scrubbing until the stain is gone.

Blot the area with a rag to remove the soap and water solution.

Boil a pan of water and use the boiling water to rinse your driveway clean.
