Homemade jewelry cleaner is easy to make and can save you money. Follow the steps below to get your jewelry sparkling clean!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm water
  • Any basic detergent, such as dishwashing soap or laundry detergent
  • Ammonia
  • An old tooth brush
  • Soft, lint-free cloth
  1. Step 1

Mix about a cup of water with a small squirt of detergent and a splash of ammonia in a small dish. The ammonia is optional but will assist with cutting any grease. (WARNING: Do not use ammonia with detergents containing bleach as harmful fumes will develop!) Stir until well-mixed and all soap has dissolved.

  2. Step 2

Place jewelry in cleaning solution and allow to soak for a few minutes. This will allow any caked-on dirt and debris to soften and become easier to remove.

  3. Step 3

Gently scrub jewelry with toothbrush, paying special attention to small crevices and behind jewels. If jewelry is especially dirty, you may have to soak again and repeat scrubbing.

  4. Step 4

Rinse well and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Your jewelry will be sparkling clean and ready to wear!

  5. Step 5

Clean jewelry regularly to maintain sparkle and shine!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not mix ammonia with cleaners containing bleach
  • Do not get cleaning solution in eyes
  • This cleaner is not recommended for delicate jewelry, opals, or pearls.
