How to Stop a Newborn Baby from Crying

A mother should try to find the cause of a baby's crying fits.

Every healthy newborn baby will cry a lot, and most of them the baby is trying to tell the parent it needs something. The parent who recognizes what the cries mean can fulfill those needs fast and possibly prevent future outbreaks.

Instructions

1. Be consistent with your routines so the baby gets used to being fed, cleaned or put to bed at the same time. This will lessen their stress and discomfort.

2. Try to determine what causes the crying. If the baby is on a regular food schedule, and you don't think she's hungry, check the diaper or how she's dressed. Sometimes the baby will cry just because she isn't wrapped warmly enough. You should try to connect the pitch of the cry to a need.

3. Pick up the child and walk around. Tired or cranky babies may just need the sensation of movement to calm down.

4. Move the baby to a new environment. There could be something in the room that you're used to that is causing the baby to cry.

5. Babies that cry constantly may have other problems. A baby that cries more than three hours a day for more than three weeks may have colic. See a doctor if the crying gets out of control.
